Every dress begins with a measurement.

BERTA is an evening and ceremony atelier in Tehran. Every piece is measured, cut and finished by hand, for one person at a time.

The atelier

We are not a shop with sizes. We are a room with a mirror, a cutting table and one client.

Our work starts with a measurement, not a rack. Each piece is built for one body: measured, drawn as a pattern on paper, cut in tulle or silk, then beaded and stitched by hand.

At the Vanak atelier you see the cloth in daylight, try the toile on, and follow the piece until it is finished. The result is a dress that sits at the shoulder — not one that merely fits a size.

From measurement to handover

Five stages, and none of them can be shortened.

  1. 01

    Conversation

We begin with the occasion: the hours, the light, the feeling you want to carry into the room.

  2. 02

    Measurement

The body is measured standing and seated — at the shoulder, the waist and the hip.

  3. 03

    Pattern

A paper pattern and a calico toile are cut before any silk is touched.

  4. 04

    Handwork

Stones, pearls and embroidery are set by hand, bead by bead, over several days.

  5. 05

    Fitting

The piece is tried on, re-cut if it must be, and handed over on the day you need it.
